God has called my family and I to start the Victory Side Baptist Church in the Raleigh, NC area. The specific area of focus is the greater Cleveland area which is about fifteen minutes south of Raleigh at the intersection of I-40 and NC-42. This is a rapidly growing area and is need of an independent Baptist church.
Our vision for Victory Side Baptist Church is to be a Bible-believing, Bible-preaching, old-fashioned, soul winning independent, fundamental, Baptist church with a spirit of revival and a church that believes that the great hymns of the faith are still relevant for today. Our goal is to fulfill every part of the Great Commission by relying on the power of God to win souls and to disciple believers. We believe that the Christian life is all about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and that if we love God the way we ought to, we will love people the way we ought to. As a result, we will obey the commands of God and bring forth fruit.
We would appreciate your prayers as we seek to do the Lord's will.
Pastor Donnie Johnson
I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home. On February 17, 1993 as a four year old boy, my family and I came home from a Wednesday evening service at church and I asked my parents if I could get saved. That night I bowed my head and trusted Christ as my personal Saviour. I’m so thankful that the Lord has made the gospel simple enough so that even young children can get saved and be spared from a life of misery and sin. I was baptized at my church a few months later. I not only had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home, but also to go to a Christian school from kindergarten to 12th grade. During that time, I began to learn how to faithfully walk with the Lord, to develop a personal relationship with the Lord through prayer and Bible study, and to stand for what’s right. As a junior in high school, I made a decision in a chapel service at school to simply follow the Lord’s will for my life. In September of 2006, as a freshman at Pensacola Christian College, God called me to preach. Immediately, the Lord began working on my heart about pastoring and specifically about starting a church. The next year I transferred to Crown College in Powell, Tennessee where I met Rachael. We both traveled in the singing groups at Crown in 2008 and the men’s quartet went to the Northeast. The Lord continued to burden my heart about starting a church when I saw the lack of Bible-believing churches in the Northeast. I began to pray about each section of the United States and asked the Lord where He would have me go. There are many needy areas all across our country, but the Lord led me back closer to home. We believe that there is a great need for Bible-believing churches even in the Bible Belt. We have prayed for over 10 years and the Lord has given us direction to start a church south of Raleigh around the 40/42 area. This year we will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and the Lord has blessed us with two wonderful children. Stephen and Amy Rose have both trusted Christ as their Saviour.
I Thessalonians 5:24 says, “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
I was raised in a Christian home. I grew up hearing Bible stories and how Jesus died on the cross and rose again the third day. As a little four year old girl, I remember really thinking hard about Jesus dying for me. I couldn’t believe that someone would love me so much that He would die to pay for my sins. One day I was sitting in my parents’ room just thinking about it. I went to my mom and asked a bunch of questions and she showed me how I could know I was going to Heaven. With tears in my eyes I asked Jesus to come into my heart. I wasn’t scared of dying and going to Hell. I just knew I wanted to go to Heaven one day and be with the One Who loved me enough to die for me. Through the years, my family has been faithful in fervently serving the Lord through soul winning, the bus route, music, and so much more. Through my parents’ faithful service, I was able to be a part of seeing God do many great things which placed in my heart a burden and desire to serve God and give Him my life. I attended Crown College where I met my husband the third day of college. As we began getting to know each other, we found that our desires to serve the Lord and the stands we took on many spiritual issues were the same. We quickly knew that we wanted to serve the Lord together. Even in our dating years we dreamed of one day starting a church. I am thankful for all that God has done through the years and how He has led us so far. I am excited to see what God is going to do as we set out to start Victory Side Baptist Church. I know the same God that saved a four year old girl twenty-six years ago has the power to save so many more through Victory Side Baptist Church!
Stephen was saved on June 23, 2014, at the age of 4, while attending a vacation bible school at Gethsemane Baptist Church. His grandma had the wonderful privilege of leading him to Christ. Stephen is a sweet boy, with a servant's heart, and a love for the lost. He is always happy whenever he hears another soul has come to Christ. His desire is to one day be a missionary, as he says, to everywhere. He just has a love and desire to see people saved!
Amy Rose Johnson
Amy Rose was also saved at the age of 4. On the 21st of September, 2017, while waiting for a soul-winning meeting to start Amy Rose asked her Daddy if she could be saved. That night she bowed her head and accepted the Lord as her Saviour. She is our wildflower child, but she loves church and singing for the Lord. We are so proud that both of our children have accepted Christ as their Saviour, and have an active desire to serve the Lord at a young age!
